“Saving Acts”
Adam and Eve ate from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.
They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Genesis 2:7-8 NASB (1995)
Adam and Eve were experiencing shame from their sin. This is what shame does; it causes us to hide away so that we cannot be seen. When we feel shame we will also hide from our Creator.
The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.
Genesis 2:21 NASB (1995)
They tried to cover their shame with fig leaves but God made them a garment from an animal. This means that an animal was sacrificed, blood was shed, to provide a covering for their shame.
Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry.
Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.
Matthew 21:18-19 NASB (1995)
Jesus cursed man’s attempt to cover sin and shame with fig leaves which did not produce fruit to satisfy the spiritual hunger in humanity.
Jesus, the ultimate sacrifice, died for our shame.
And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves by casting lots.
Matthew 27:35 NASB (1995)
Jesus hung on the cross naked. No longer would our sin and shame be covered by the skin of an animal, He took the shame upon Himself when He hung naked on the Cross, He became sin and a curse.
22“If a man has committed a sin worthy of death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23his corpse shall not hang all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him on the same day (for he who is hanged is accursed of God), so that you do not defile your land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance.
Deuteronomy 21:22-23 NASB (1995)
Jesus took our sin and shame upon Himself and took it to hell where He left it. He rose from the grave on the third day by the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit which now dwells in us. We are a new creation in Christ. Shame cannot be part of our new nature because it has been left in hell.
Prayer
Father, Thank You for paying the price to have me back You sent Your Son, Your only Begotten Son to be the sacrifice to remove sin and shame from me. Jesus, thank You for taking our shame upon Yourself. Because of Your sacrifice I have been accepted. I now stand righteous because of what You did You opened the way so that I can come boldly to the throne and ask whatever I desire* and it shall be done.
