Character of God: Creator

Bara

Everything He created has a place and a purpose. Every star in the Heavens has been specifically placed and He knows how many there are and He has given each one a name.

Isaiah 40:25-26

25To whom then will you liken Me
That I would be his equal?" says the Holy One.
26Lift up your eyes on high
And see who has created these stars,
The One who leads forth their host by number,
He calls them all by name;
Because of the greatness of His might and strength of His power,
Not one of them is missing.

God created living creatures and plants to reproduce themselves.

11Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind.

...21So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God said that it was good. 22And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

27So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created them. 28Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 1:11-12, 21-22, 27-28 (NKJV)

He created us to reproduce, to give out what He planted in us. He created his image – me and you, and it is part of who He is. It is natural for us to want to pass on what is inside us. He puts His life in us, and we desire to pass this on to others. This is the flow.

Once the Earth was created, we tend to think that He has finished creating. This is not so. One of the characteristics of God is that He is a creator. He has not stopped creating. If I stop to look at my life’s journey, I can say without a doubt that His creativity has been weaved into my life.

He brought me from the garbage heap, and He has been doing a work of restoration in my life, creating me into the image of His Son.

I have watched many renovation shows on the television and I’m amazed at how people can walk into a house (if you can call it that) and they can see the potential of a property that I would consider a “knock down and rebuild”. The creativity in the renovators gets to work and the house is transformed to its original design, but even better. While marvelling at the creativity of the renovators I sensed the Lord say in my heart, “Those renovators are made in my image, of course they are able to do that because that is what I do.”

I am His resting place, He makes his home in me.

Jesus answered and said to him [Judas(not Iscariot)], “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.”

John 14:23 NKJV

“Abode” is Strongs number 3438 and it is used in context of “lodging, dwelling-place, room, abode, mansion

Passion Translation says it this way:

Jesus replied, “Loving me empowers you to obey my word. And my Father will love you so deeply that we will come to you and make you our dwelling place.

John 1:23 (TPT)

When He comes in, the creativity of our God begins the work of restoration. You may think that your life is such a wreck that it is better to “knock down and rebuild” from scratch. But He says “No. I am going to do a work of restoration, keeping the character of the “house” and making it even better than what it ever was before.”

Then that desire to reproduce which He placed inside us is not just referring to bearing children, it also applies to the revelation and understanding we receive through his Word, illuminated by His Spirit within us. Those seeds that we have received from Him, we then naturally want to impart to others through times of fellowship. But it is not just in the giving that is important, we also need to receive “seeds” from others. This is the building of the Body of Christ.

Prayer

Father, help me to yield to Your creativity in my life
I don't want to hinder Your creativity.
I yield to You
I give you permission to express Yourself in my life.
I give you permission to express Yourself through
me so that I will be Your masterpiece
that you desire to put on display,
and that my life will reflect who You are.
