I woke up hearing in my spirit, “I want to spend my life on you.”
Meditating on this, I realised that this is a key in the spiritual life. As ambassadors of the Kingdom here on the Earth, we need to spend our lives on Him. This is dying to the self-life and it goes against trying to preserve our life.
Are we willing to live every day as if it is our last day on Earth? Do we make the most of every day, sowing into our spiritual life and into the Kingdom?
The humble little bees came to mind and with a little bit of research some interesting facts were highlighted:
- It takes constant teamwork and dedication all year round from the bees to make honey
- The cycle of the bee is:
- Grow the hive
- pollinate the flowers
- Create honey
- Any disruption to the cycle and the bees will not be able to produce honey
- The bees need fly about 50,000 miles and visit 2 million flowers to make 1 pound of honey
- It takes 12 bees to make 1 teaspoon of honey in their lifetime.
- A bee colony will produce about 65 pounds of honey a year
- Bees work an average of 60-80 hours a week during the busy season
- There is leader for each colony of bees; it is the queen bee. She is the most important and a colony cannot survive without her. She is the “foundation” and the start of an entire hive, and she lives for about 2-3 years.
- Worker bees will only live for about 4-6 weeks
- Drones are the male bees who work inside the hive and sometimes they will mate with the queen. When the drone mates with the queen, the act of mating rips his abdomen open and he dies.
- The worker bees will collect the nectar from the flowers and pass it onto the drones. When the drone receives the nectar, it gets pushed down into the nectar sac where it is combined with enzymes. The nectar is regurgitated and pushed back down. Then it is regurgitated to give to another drone who does the same thing. This will continue to be passed around until the moisture content is reduced to about 20% and it is no longer nectar, it has become honey.

Bees only take enough food for themselves for the journey and if there is a miscalculation where the journey ends up being further, they will die before getting back to the hive. They also work hard to maintain a specific temperature range within the hive. Every bee is committed and dedicated to the survival of the hive.
The fruit of their labour is gold… golden honey.

We are either slaves unto righteousness or we are slaves unto unrighteousness.
16Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
17But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, 18and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
Romans 6:16-18 NASB (1995)
We have been purchased with a high price. He spent His life on us. It is a deception to think that we can do what we like without consequences. The truth is, we are either obedient to sin or we are obedient to God. Once we have received Jesus into our hearts, our lives are no longer our own, we are His possession. Will we willingly allow Him to spend us how He desires?
So this is my command: Love each other deeply, as much as I have loved you. 13For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated when a person sacrifices his life for his friends.
You show that you are my intimate friends when you obey all that I command you. 15I have never called you ‘servants,’ because a master doesn’t confide in his servants, and servants don’t always understand what the master is doing. But I call you my most intimate and cherished friends, for I reveal to you everything that I’ve heard from my Father. 16You didn’t choose me, but I’ve chosen and commissioned you to go into the world to bear fruit. And your fruit will last, because whatever you ask of my Father, for my sake, he will give it to you! 17So this is my parting command: Love one another deeply!”
John 14:12-17 The Passion Translation
Jesus came to be a friend and He said, “For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated when a person sacrifices his life for his friends.” Jesus set the example, will we be His disciple and follow Him? Will we allow Him to spend us how He desires?
